With the rise of the industrial internet of things, one technology has attracted the attention of the industry – PoE (Power over Ethernet) technology, which is a technology that transmits power to network equipment. It can ensure the safety of existing structured cabling while ensuring the normal operation of existing networks, and minimize costs.
A complete PoE system includes two parts: power sourcing equipment (PSE) and power receiving equipment (PD, Power Device). The PSE device is the device that powers the Ethernet client device, and is also the manager of the entire PoE power over Ethernet process. The PD device is the PoE load that receives power. The excellent PSE and PD controller can provide developers with a complete end-to-end PoE system.
An excellent PSE is crucial
PSE provides power to the entire PoE system and manages the power supply process, similar to a traditional power adapter. It provides stable and reliable power to the PoE system in order for devices to function properly.
The PSE design faces many challenges, such as surges and cable discharge, LED indication support, complex 802.3af/at standards, the need for multi-port design, diverse register configurations, thermal efficiency, and power output capabilities. A small PSE design defect can cause the entire PoE system to malfunction and even damage the equipment.
8-port PSE controller compliant with IEEE802.3 af/at standard – TMI7608
Guided by “customer needs” and to help customers cope with the many challenges of PSE design, Tuoer Micro independently developed and designed an 8-port PSE controller – TMI7608, which meets the IEEE802.3 af/at standard.
Unlike other PSE ICs on the market, TMI7608 integrates multiple functional modules such as built-in MOS, LED indication control, 3.3V output circuit, EEPROM control, port power management, etc., greatly simplifying peripheral design, helping customers reduce downstream resource investment and reduce costs. At the same time, it has strong surge resistance and power output ability, which better enhances the stability of the equipment.
Port MOS built-in: simplifies design, eliminates the need for external MOS, and reduces costs;
Support for EEPROM initialization parameter configuration: during fully automatic operation, external EEPROM is used to automatically configure parameters without the need for additional microcontroller configuration;
Support for LED control: Simplify port power-on indication and overcurrent indication circuits, without affecting port detection, and without requiring additional microcontroller resources for LED control;
Support for fully automatic mode operation: By simply configuring pins or registers, fully automatic operation can be achieved, greatly simplifying peripheral circuit design in non managed application scenarios;
The total power can be configured through pin resistors: the total power of all ports can be set through a resistor on one pin, simplifying peripheral circuit design;
Support 3.3V external output: It can provide 3.3V power supply to low-power devices without the need for additional design of 48V to 3.3V power supply circuits.
Voltage range 100V: with higher pin withstand voltage capability, enhancing surge resistance;
Support for single port non-standard 50W output: High power single port output function can be achieved through pin configuration alone, simplifying peripheral circuits;
Product features:
◆ Single DC power supply voltage input (44V~57V)
◆ Wide working environment temperature range: -40 ℃~+85 ℃
0.24 Ω current sensing resistor
◆ 9-bit port current and voltage monitoring accuracy
◆ Support fully automatic mode operation
◆ Built in power on reset
