The report shows that, In 2022, the actual sales revenue of the Chinese game market will be 265.884 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 10.33%. The number of game users was 664 million, a year-on-year decrease of 0.33%.

Zhang Yijun pointed out that this is the first decline in the past eight years after the obvious slowdown in scale growth in 2021, indicating that industrial development has entered the era of the stock market.

In the field of self-developed games, the actual sales revenue of self-developed games in the domestic market in 2022 will be 222.377 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 13.07%. The actual sales revenue of self-developed games in overseas markets was US$17.346 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 3.70%. Among them, among the top 100 self-developed mobile games by revenue in overseas markets in 2022, strategy games accounted for 38.76%, role-playing games accounted for 12.76%, and shooting games accounted for 12.35%.

The report shows that among the top 100 mobile game products by revenue in 2022, the role-playing category is still the type with the largest number of top mobile game products and the largest market share. Role-playing, card and strategy categories accounted for 24%, 12% and 11% respectively, of which role-playing categories accounted for the highest proportion of total revenue, accounting for 18.17%; multiplayer online tactical sports accounted for 15.31%; shooting category Ranked third, accounting for 14.94%.

At the same time, among the top 100 mobile game products by revenue, the number of original IPs in top mobile games has increased significantly in the past three years. Original IP games have the highest revenue, accounting for 45.39%; mobile games adapted from client games, console or stand-alone games, and literary works account for 37.32%, 7.65% and 3.71% of revenue respectively.

In terms of game themes, among the top 100 mobile game products by revenue in 2022, the three themes with the highest proportions are fantasy/magic, weak themes and historical themes, accounting for 25%, 18% and 13% respectively . The highest revenue streams are fantasy/magic, modern and cultural fusion themes, accounting for 22.26%, 18.09% and 13.82% respectively.

In terms of client games, the market share of client games has increased year by year in the past three years, showing a good development trend against the background of the overall downturn in the industry. In 2022, the actual sales revenue of the Chinese client game market will be 61.373 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 4.38%; the actual sales revenue of the web game market will be 5.28 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 12.44%.

In terms of casual mobile games, advertising monetization is still the main source of revenue, but compared with the previous year, the proportion of advertising monetization to total revenue has decreased. In 2022, China’s casual mobile game revenue will be 34.438 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 0.62%. Among them, the actual sales revenue generated by in-app purchases was 9.577 billion yuan, and the realized advertising revenue was 24.861 billion yuan.

In addition, according to Zhang Yijun’s disclosure at the scene, the 20th China joy exhibition in 2023 is currently under intensive preparations, and will continue to be held in Pudong, Shanghai from July 28 to 31 this year.
